MIKAYLA GALE FOR COCHRANE TOWN COUNCIL

Fresh Perspective. Stronger Cochrane
I’m stepping up because Cochrane deserves a voice that listens, learns, and leads with energy. Together, we can build a future that balances growth with community.

SMALL TOWN
CHARACTER, BIG TOWN CHALLENGES
Cochrane is growing fast, but that doesn't mean we have to lose what makes us special. I believe in protecting our small-town character while making smart, balanced decisions that keep services strong without pushing us into big-city problems. Growth should work for us, not the other way around.
SMALL BUSINESS AFORDABILITY
Cochrane’s small businesses face high rents, rising costs, and competition from nearby cities. Council can’t control lease rates, but we can make it easier to do business here. That means cutting red tape, streamlining permits, keeping our fees competitive with neighbouring towns, and planning smarter commercial spaces in new developments. By expanding and diversifying our non-residential tax base, we can ease the burden on homeowners while helping local businesses succeed.
SMART GROWTH & ACCOUNTABILTY
Too often, growth leaves residents catching up on traffic, schools, and services. Development should only move forward when the basics are funded and in place, such as: Highway 22 upgrades, new schools, and emergency services. Developers must be held to their commitments with clear timelines, off-site levies that cover real costs, and public tracking so residents can see what’s been promised and delivered.
PROTECT GREENSPACE AND OUR BOW RIVER
No net loss of public greenspace, wider riparian buffers along the Bow and Jumping Pound, and tapping provincial dollars to restore wetlands and improve flood protection.
